The Upside of Sickness

Quiet. Peace. Less stress. Little yelling. Little fighting.

The flu has hit our household; half of our household pretty hard. I'm not part of the feel like death by influenza this time. Surprising, since I have the weakest immune system of the bunch. I've never been on this side of the equation before and I get to experience the benefits of not being very sick while taking care of the sickees. Get that? I'm just a little sick. I have my own theory as to why I'm less sick with this strain of virus, but that's neither here nor there in this conversation. I don't like that they are sick and do not wish for it to last longer than necessary, but there are benefits:  Longer naps, not fighting about taking a nap or going to bed, no constant fighting over toys or whining about what food they have to eat or obeying, different types of messes to clean up which are easier messes to clean up, less food to make because not much eating is taking place here, less mischief, chaos and mayhem.

Quiet, peace, time for a bit of yoga (it's a little difficult with a head cold and apparently my shoulders were very tight). Time for a bit of blogging before midnight. Time for a face mask before a shower. Time for me to relax and enjoy the quiet.

Toddlerhood requires a lot of discipline and always being on watch for impending disaster.  I didn't realize how much until I had a break from it. Even with getting up every hour during the night to take care of needs, it is still far more relaxing. Be it but a three day break, I hope I soaked up the afternoon sun rays coming through my window and gained perspective to be a better mommie when health returns and chaos continues.
