May or May Not Monday

May or May-Not Monday: Where you can divulge the secrets of life's mishaps without feeling like a failure. So go on... own up. I may have...

I may or may not be single parenting again with a work trip that took away our weekend. AGAIN. That's bookends or work trips on our weekends two weekends in a row.

This being left business may or may not lead to buying plants for our garden. Y'all I don't have a yard, that just doesn't give credence to its beauty. This house has a garden. Last year I bought plants to deal with my gram's death. This year it's because of all the unending work trips that always come up last minute because it's emergency placement of a kid out of state. He doesn't take the kid, he has to find the right facility for their treatment needs and that is in compliance with Federal requirements. Rarely do two emergency kids need the same facility another has needed. I get asked this regularly because it is what makes sense, but that's not the nature of his job. But my yard, ahem, garden is the winner for it. I'm just starting to get anxious about our water bills for June, July, and August as I do every year. But this year in particular because a new company bought the city water and it's for profit and is charging 20% more than the other company. It's going to seem very unfair when the waterfall this winter/spring (really winter just held on until this week) has caused major, major, major flooding. We are going on three months of flooding and the big mountains ( ID has over 50 peaks topping 10,000 ft) are just starting to melt.

I may or may not be mad at Seasame Street for teaching through Bert that pigeons were useless, dirty creatures. I watched a show on PBS about pigeons and they are impressive. They can identify individuals  based on previous interaction. They are equitable in group feedings so all get enough. And the homing feature is just amazing. Scientists still don't understand exactly how it works. All this tidbit about pigeons is because we have a fledging and family in our front yard since Saturday. It was discovered while watering plants and it got scared and decided to hang out in rocks by our garage where it was camoed sorta but not safe from the neighborhood cat CJ or Hawks that are loving their choices of babies right now. He did "fly" back into bushes when I required my darling husband move him. Right as he was going in for the capture, the car alarm was set off by keys in his pocket. Yesterday while transplanting a rhodie, my little told me he had just walked by our subi wagon trunk that was open and a parent pigeon flew out of it. So I hope this means they've decided we are decent human beans (BFG reference) despite my littles getting far too close to Fledge as they named it.

My littles at ages 9 & 7 have just decided to ride bikes. It has taken the younger one to decide he is ready and the older one to get over his new fear of riding that wasn't there previously. Dealing with a popped tire and getting the wrong tube size twice slowed the progress. As well as rough handle bars, rubbing the littles' delicate hands. We have three bikes of different sizes and they both want to same one, each having very good argument for wanting the bike. If this becomes a thing that sticks, we are going to have to figure it out.

Oatmeal baths have become a regular part of life for a little that touches grass and breaks out in eczema hive rashes. This year it's on the back of his legs and hips. I can't keep him from being a kid in the grass so we are trying an onslaught of remedies, some recommended from his allergist, others from online, and    an accupressure treatment from a very generous friend. So I had my darling husband in charge of the latest oatmeal bath and I heard a scream of NO!! and now my pipes make sounds where they didn't make them before. Pretty sure you can put that together. Hopefully enough water will dissolve the oatmeal enough to pass through the pipes of my house without causing exploding pressure. While this has been labeled the year my house broke, I'd prefer this not to be another reason how.

The countdown is on for the pool opening. Winter is still solidly here and spring is peeking through a bit with temps. I wholeheartedly cannot wrap my head around being in the pool in the next two weeks. I will appreciate the ability to entertain us during the day by going to swim while others are sitting in a classroom. Usually we are dying for the pool to open because it's already hot. So we will see if winter decides to leave us. Every year I've lived here, there's been snow the last week of May despite already hitting the 90s. It's almost like winter has to whip us with his bite one last time before being beaten away.
